Greetings Team District 1!

The down time is over!  The weather is getting nice finally and the calendar is getting full!  We have many District events coming up and I am very excited to spend time with you all!  First, Diana, our District Auxiliary President and I are hosting our joint Homecoming celebration together on April 20th and we would love nothing more than to have you all there to celebrate!  It has been a whirlwind of a year and I cannot believe we are closing it out soon.  Please get your RSVP's in so we can have a good idea of how many people to plan for.  And don't forget those dancing shoes!  Next up is our Loyalty Day Padres Game on April 28th!  Wear your Post/VFW gear and put some applications in your pockets!

Next, I want to thank you all for your community service efforts.  Our Posts are far more than our Canteens.  More and more I am seeing our Posts hosting recruiting events, food drives, wellness symposiums and feeding flood victims.  THIS is what the VFW is about.  THIS is supporting veterans and their families.  THIS is what being an advocate is all about.  Keep up the GOOD WORK!  The Canteen is fun, and has its purpose, but it isn't our only purpose!  Being visible in our communities is the best way to attract new members.  Networking is key! The sunshine brings people out so I encourage all of our Posts to look for the networking opportunities in your communities, Farmers markets, craft fairs, sponsorship of youth sports and scouts.  If you are networking regularly you will be on your way to making your recruiting goals!  Meeting those goals makes the pool of volunteers and new ideas grow!  I am a firm believer that you get back what you put in, so get in your community and they will come back to you!

Lastly, it is time for elections.  Thank you to those that have held leadership positions in our Posts.  I appreciate the time you have devoted to our VFW.  If you are moving up, keep charging, there is so much more to learn.  If you are stepping back, we appreciate what you have given and share what you know to set your relief up for success! "Success is best when it is shared." -Howard Schultz

Yours in Service,

March 2024 Dispatch

Hello Brothers, Sisters ,

It’s hard to believe that April is already here and another reporting year is coming to a close! Thanks to all the Auxiliaries and Chairman for doing an exceptional job.

As the year is coming to a close, April is time to go over end-of-year reporting, applications for Circle of Excellence and All State Auxiliaries, quarterly audits, and Auxiliary Elections. We are missing a few reports to be at a 100% in reporting. All reports need to be submitted by April 15.

Some important due dates are as follows:

· 2023-2024 Program Reports: April 15

· All State Applications: April 15

· Circle of Excellence Applications: April 30

· Jan-Mar Quarterly (Q3) Audit: Completed by April 30 and sent to Department by May 31

As of April 1 2024, District 1 has 20 Auxiliaries that are 100% or higher in membership. Great job! Our current membership is 102,09%, Our last Membership meeting for the year will be April 28, 5:30, at Auxiliary 2111.

Note: Our next District Meeting will be held: Sunday May 5, 2024 8:00 a.m. Memorial Service ; 9:00 a.m. Regular Business Meeting , VFW Post 5867 – Carter Smith, Lakeside. We will be having nominations/elections for District 1 officers under ‘new business’ and I ask for as many Presidents and their teams to be in attendance.

The Memorial Service begins at 8am. District 1 Chaplain Mary will have the memorial books ready for the service, so please be prompt and a little early for the 8am start time so we can proceed without delay. . We also are asking those Auxiliaries who were contacted recently to have all their donations, dues, delegates fees (due by 3/30 to District 1 Secretary Evie), audits and other financial obligations accounted for.

The joint Homecoming Reception will be held Saturday April 20, Lakeside Post, 4pm. All are welcome to attend! We are asking for you to RSVP and there will be a $5.00 donation- you may pay at the door.

Mass Installation will be May 11, Lemon Grove Post 10am. There is a $15 installation feeper Auxiliary.

Thank you for all that you do!

Loyal in Service to our Veterans,

Diana
